Cocaine Christianity

I have to admit that few things irritate me as talking to many Christians because I often feel many Christians are “high”.

For those who are unclear about what being “high” refers to, I am talking about a state of intoxication, induced by illicit drugs or drug abuse, often characterized by the constant spewing of nonsense and gibberish that doesn’t make a lot of sense, and doing so with a great degree of “conviction”. However, I am slowly getting used to religious people who speak as though they are under the influence of some banned substance(s).I think it is because many display a lack of a vital ingredient necessary for the pursuit of God, truth and the spiritual:

HONESTY…

This is the very reason why Christians expect to hear a voice from heaven telling them what companies they should work in, who they are meant to marry, what careers they should engage in. It is the reason why when things do not go according to plan, there is a prayerful search for the demons and witches behind these mishaps, the reason why it is hard to have a decent or regular conversation about life, challenges, aspirations, dreams and goals without getting that hollow and off-putting feeling that the Christian is fake, out of touch with reality – or simply “high”. It is the reason why you often want to ask the question: “Are you really thinking and listening to what you are saying?”

Let’s clear up something. Irrespective of the particular reason(s) for your existence, you were meant to LIVE in the process of fulfilling that purpose. For those who might be confused about what I mean, what I am trying to say is that no matter how “divine” your purpose/destiny – or how divine you may think it is, whatever it is, you are a human being living on earth, a physical plane, interacting with other human beings – and this physical plane has rules. Now, there is a spiritual plane that has its own set of rules. What causes confusion is trying to use the rules of one plane to get results in another.

What am I trying to say? Let me start off by saying that we will be sorely deceiving ourselves if we act like the spiritual realm and how it operates is as clear to us humans as the physical earth. As a person begins to seek God and truth, the “spiritual” becomes clearer with time – and time here can actually mean a lifetime, with more understanding as one gets more adept at actively interacting and living in the spirit or spiritual realm. “Actively” is the keyword in that statement because whether we are conscious of it or not, whether we allude to it or not, just like air and gravity surround a baby who is totally unaware of the laws of physics, so is the spiritual always in operation around us.

So as we transit from being totally blind to the spiritual to gaining awareness of that realm, to actively seeking God and truth, gaining awareness and growing in understanding, it is critical to simply stay HONEST. It is critical to distinguish emotions and feelings from the call of the divine; it is folly to speak of things that you do not understand as though you do, and to end up coming across like a complete idiot. And while you slowly gain understanding of the other realm, make sure you understand the rules of LIVING where you are.

Make sure you learn to laugh from the bottom of heart, make sure you learn to enjoy simple things, like long walks and other beautiful things of this earth that is fast fading. Friend, make sure you have taken time off to really know who you are. Make sure you have understood the kind of man or woman that you would like to be, the kind of man or woman that you would like to be with, the type of life you would like to live if you lacked no resource – and the kind of life you may have to live till you can live the one you want to live. Make sure your ‘yea’ and ‘nay’ are from your heart and learn to reflect, to think, to actually use your brain to analyse what your eyes see, what your ears hear, the experiences around you… You need to allow the grey and white matter in your skull actually dissect, churn, mince and work upon the information you receive and let the inferences and conclusions be what your mouth speaks… You may not know it all, but no one will doubt that you are sincere, that you have thought about the things you are saying, not simply spewing the random concepts of your preferred “man of God”.

When you see something you want, go for it. When you see someone you like, spend time with them. When you find something fascinating, explore it – and when your conscience pricks you and tells you to let go, exercise restraint, be a better man – listen! Invest the resource needed to be where you are and where you want to be; Relationships will always need sacrifice, time, commitment and communication. Skill will always require dedication and the right practice. Success requires the same things, but also the right knowledge, networks, delayed gratification and personal growth.

The spiritual will not bestow these on you – you must put your back into it and invest the resources because these are the demands of this plane!

Every now and then, before you fully master the spiritual, before you understand how God speaks to you, before you start to create results from exercising true spiritual power, the heavens will sporadically break open over you. You will peep into the divine, have a glimpse of the other side, see a vision, hear an angel, get confirmation that there is a higher, other plane – but till you fully embrace and commit to the requirement of that plane, you will not LIVE in that plane.

You will be on earth.

So stop trying to improve your failing business with the “blood of Jesus”; enrol for a course. Stop saying your mom is a witch and is hindering you from getting married; brush up your communication skills and for goodness sakes, do something about your clothes and bad breath! Stop saying God told you something about every single person you have met; you are simply observant or even becoming adept at stating the obvious – BUT in those rare moments when God speaks, you had better realize how much of a privilege it is to hear the father’s voice or feel his nudge – obey quickly.

So when next you are about to “worship”, ask yourself, am I really spiritual, do I really have a relationship with God – or am I just another “masturbator” that is dressed in a spiritual garb, exciting myself with spiritual antics that have no real bearing on both earth and the spiritual plane?
